Limón/Villa-Lobos — The Emperor Jones
The Limón Dance Company returns with a powerful program of classic and contemporary works, accompanied live by the Naples Philharmonic under the baton of Associate Conductor Manuel López-Gómez. This unforgettable performance offers a striking display of the company’s signature blend of emotional intensity, sculptural movement and profound musicality.
The evening features The Emperor Jones, José Limón’s dramatic
response to Eugene O’Neill’s iconic play, set to a bold score by Heitor Villa-Lobos. Also
on the program is Limón’s Chaconne, a solo masterpiece danced to music by J.S.
Bach that distills his choreographic artistry into pure movement. The program opens with Jamelgo,
a new work commissioned in partnership with The Joyce Theater by choreographer Diego Vega Solorza, set to
original music by Ebe Oke commissioned by Artis—Naples, extending the company’s tradition of
innovation into the present day.
