Musical contrasts come into focus in the final Wang Chamber Music performance of the season as musicians of the Naples Philharmonic present two works that engage with themes of racial and social injustice before concluding with an intense, emotionally turbulent work that stretches the boundaries of the chamber tradition. Opening with back-to-back woodwind quintets from Damien Geter and Shawn Okpebholo, the two contemporary composers draw on elements of jazz, gospel, R&B and Western classical traditions to explore ongoing struggles for equity and recognition. Brahms’ intensely wrought, rhythmically complex String Quartet in C Minor closes the performance, offering a work of determination and joy.
