Shari Lewis changed the face of children’s television before Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and Sesame Street. Through the creation of her sock puppet sidekicks, which included the beloved Lamb Chop, Lewis built a playful, non-judgmental world for children and adults alike. But when her national TV show is unexpectedly canceled, Lewis sees it as an opportunity to get out from under the puppet’s shadow, only to realize later that it was Lamb Chop — and the audience’s reaction to it — that reinforced her commitment to children’s education.
