Musicians of the Naples Philharmonic
James Ehnes, violin
Leclair — Sonata for Two Violins in E Minor
C.P.E. Bach — Trio Sonata in C Minor, “Sanguineus and Melancholicus”
Mozart — String Quintet in G Minor
James Ehnes — violinist, artistic partner and one of the greatest soloists of our time — commences the Sypert Salon series, joining musicians of the Naples Philharmonic for a program that explores emotional contrast and expressive range. The program concludes with Mozart’s String Quintet in G Minor, a work of unusual depth and drama. With its brooding character, surprising twists and richly layered textures, the piece stands apart in Mozart’s catalog and makes full use of the expanded ensemble, including a second viola. At once intense and cathartic, the quintet offers a fitting showcase of Ehnes’ lyrical expressiveness and technical precision. The program also includes Jean-Marie Leclair’s Sonata for Two Violins, a graceful blend of French elegance and Italian flair, as well as C.P.E. Bach’s vividly characterful Trio Sonata in C Minor, a witty musical dialogue between contrasting personalities.
The Sypert Salon Series is generously sponsored by Drs. George Sypert and Joy Arpin.
