Haydn & Beethoven
Naples Philharmonic Sypert Salon Chamber Music
Musicians of the Naples Philharmonic
Beethoven — String Trio, Op. 9, No. 3
Haydn — String Quartet
Musicians of the Naples Philharmonic perform two landmark works that capture pivotal moments in the evolution of chamber music — and in the creative lives of Beethoven and Haydn.
Opening the program is Beethoven’s String Trio, Op. 9, No. 3, a bold and restless work that reflects the young composer’s growing confidence in the genre. With striking dynamic shifts, rhythmic drive and moments of harmonic tension, the trio reveals Beethoven pushing beyond convention as he begins to develop his distinctive musical voice.
The program concludes with a String Quartet by Haydn, often called the Father of the String Quartet. Endlessly inventive and structurally refined, Haydn’s string quartets show off his mastery of form, contrast and thematic development — qualities that shaped the course of chamber music for generations to come.
