Brahms — Piano Quartet in G Minor, Op. 25
Korean-born American pianist Min Kwon brings her signature energy, expressive range and dazzling technique to this richly varied chamber program with musicians of the Naples Philharmonic. At its heart is Brahms’ Piano Quartet in G Minor, one of his earliest and most ambitious chamber works. Full of rhythmic intensity and sweeping emotion, the piece reflects Brahms’ early influences — Bach, Beethoven and Schubert — while also highlighting his growing command of structure, texture and dramatic pacing, especially in its electrifying final movement.
The program opens with Clara Schumann’s Prelude and Fugue in G Minor, a testament to her skill in counterpoint and harmonic invention, affirming her place among the great Romantic composers of her time. Also featured is Damien Geter’s String Quartet No. 1, “Neo-Soul,” a contemporary work inspired by the soulful sounds of 1990s artists like Erykah Badu, D’Angelo and Jill Scott — blending classical form with rich, modern grooves.
