Dvořák’s American Quartet
Naples Philharmonic Wang Chamber Music
Musicians of the Naples Philharmonic
Reena Esmail — Piano Trio
Dvořák — String Quartet in F Major, “American”
Musicians of the Naples Philharmonic close the Wang Chamber Music series with a program that bridges cultures and continents. Featuring works by composers who seamlessly blend their native musical languages with new traditions, this concert offers a fresh perspective on the global voice of chamber music.
The program opens with Reena Esmail’s Piano Trio, a richly layered work that draws on the Hindustani classical music of Northern India and the textural sophistication of Western chamber music. Inspired in part by Ravel’s Piano Trio, Esmail’s composition offers a fluid and engaging dialogue between two traditions, resulting in a piece that is both contemplative and vibrant.
The concert concludes with Dvořák’s String Quartet in F Major, known as the American Quartet. Written during a summer retreat in the rural town of Spillville, Iowa, the work brims with warmth, melodic charm and rhythmic vitality. Drawing on both his Bohemian roots and the folk idioms he encountered in America, Dvořák created one of his most beloved and enduring chamber works.
The Wang Chamber Music series is generously sponsored by David* and Cecile Wang.
