Jimmy López — Perú Negro
Beethoven — Piano Concerto No. 1
Prokofiev — Suite from Cinderella

Known for his expressive range, technical brilliance and insightful interpretations, pianist Jeremy Denk returns to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Naples Philharmonic, led by Peruvian conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya. Though labeled “first,” the concerto was actually Beethoven's second in order of composition, and it already reveals the hallmarks of his unmistakable voice: bold ideas, daring harmonies and flashes of irreverent humor. The program opens with Perú Negro by fellow Peruvian composer Jimmy López, a vibrant and percussive homage to his Afro-Peruvian heritage. Full of color and rhythmic vitality, the work sets the stage for a dynamic and wide-ranging evening. The concert concludes with Prokofiev’s Suite from Cinderella, a richly orchestrated ballet score brimming with enchantment, sardonic wit and darker emotional undercurrents — an evocative fairy tale in music, complete with drama, elegance and just a hint of midnight.

Prelude at 6:30pm
Join the conductor before the performance for an insightful 30-minute prelude discussion about the program.
