Copland — Symphony No. 3
French conductor Ludovic Morlot returns to lead the Naples Philharmonic in a compelling program that blends American reflection with European lyricism. The evening begins with Ives’ Decoration Day, a deeply personal meditation on memory and mourning, drawn from his larger Holidays Symphony. With its poignant melodies and shifting textures, the piece captures the solemnity and quiet reverence of a national day of remembrance.
Acclaimed violinist Stella Chen then joins the orchestra for Dvořák’s Violin Concerto, a passionate and technically demanding work that fuses lyrical charm with rhythmic drive. It is a striking showcase of Dvořák’s melodic gifts.
The program concludes with Copland’s Symphony No. 3, a stirring and expansive work that incorporates his Fanfare for the Common Man. Full of energy and hope, it remains one of the defining statements of the American symphonic tradition.
