Mahler — Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection”

Artistic and Music Director Alexander Shelley leads the Naples Philharmonic in a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, a towering epic that fuses orchestral brilliance with vocal and choral forces. Known as the Resurrection Symphony, this emotionally charged work explores Mahler’s vision of death, rebirth and transcendence. The orchestra is joined by soprano Miah Persson, mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly and the Naples Philharmonic Chorus under the direction of Jeremy T. Warner. From its shattering opening to its radiant, redemptive finale, Mahler’s Second Symphony moves through anguish, mystery and exultation. It was the composer’s first symphony to incorporate the human voice — a decision that allowed him to elevate the symphonic form into something deeply spiritual and boldly theatrical. This monumental work is not to be missed!

Prelude at 6:30pm
Join the conductor before the performance for an insightful 30-minute prelude discussion about the program.
